Gas Prices in Central America

(This is a guest post by Daniel.)

Merry Christmas everyone! I thought I’d share a little Christmas present with other overlanders thinking about a Panamerican Highway trip.

When I started planning, one of my first questions was how much gas cost in all the countries we were going to traverse. I mean, how can you plan a budget if you have no idea about one of your biggest expenses? But that info is surprisingly hard to find. So here you go, everything in one place! All prices are per gallon in US Dollars for regular, unleaded gas.

Fuel Prices By Country (Central America):

Mexico: $2.60 (as of 7 Nov 2011)
Belize: $5.25 (estimated as of Nov 2011; didn’t actually get gas)
Guatemala: $4.42 (as of 25 Nov 2011)
El Salvador: $3.84 (as of 03 Dec 2011)
Honduras: $4.35 (as of 06 Dec 2011)
Nicaragua: $4.56 (as of 09 Dec 2011)
Costa Rica: $4.85 (as of 16 Dec 2011)
Panama: $3.61 (as of 17 Dec 2011)
