“Was that an armadillo?” we both exclaimed simultaneously.
“I thought armadillos only existed in zoos! …or fairy tales!” I said, treading dangerously on the line between self-deprecation and humorous sarcasm.
“And Texas,” added Daniel.
Yes, we did see an armadillo. Sadly, since most of our time exploring the countryside is done in a moving van, most of the wildlife we see is also while driving. And what kind of wildlife does one see on the road? Road kill. So while it’s exciting to find an armadillo, I cannot share a photo of it for two reasons. One, we were driving too fast to whip out my camera. Two, it was most certainly squashed and I’d not want to offend anyone’s delicate sensibilities.
